JAMMU, Sept 17: Police have arrested five civilians from Paddar in connection with rioting on August 10, a day after large scale violence rocked Kishtwar town on the occasion of Eid festival.
With this, the number of total arrests made for rioting in Kishtwar and Paddar on August 9 and 10 have reached 55.
Official sources said the people, who had been protesting in Paddar and Atholi following arrests, were persuaded by the police authorities to give up protests and bandh with the assurance that anyone found innocent during questioning would be let off.
The people from minority community have now suspended protests and bandh temporarily in Paddar and Atholi following police assurance.
Meanwhile, Justice R C Gandhi Inquiry Commission after two days stay in Kishtwar has returned here for further inquiry.
During his stay in Kishtwar, Justice Gandhi had recorded statements of present civil and police officers and those posted in Kishtwar at the time of violence. He had also visited the riot affected areas and inter-acted with the people.
