Rash, negligent driving behind mishap

RAMBAN, Aug 4: Five persons were killed while 12 others sustained injuries after a tempo traveller after hitting an Alto car rolled down into deep gorge near Kela Morh on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in this district.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK02AP-5338 was on its way to Jammu from Srinagar when the driver lost control over the wheels and the vehicle plunged into deep gorge after hitting an Alto car near Kela Morh, resulting into serious injuries to 16 persons travelling in the tempo traveller and one in the car.
On getting information, a police team led by DySP Headquarters Ramban Pardeep Singh Sen rushed to the spot and started rescue operation along with locals and other security personnel.
All the injured persons were rescued and shifted to District Hospital Ramban, where doctors declared five among them as brought dead. Deputy Commissioner Mussarat Islam also rushed to District Hospital Ramban and directed the hospital staff to provide best medical treatment to the injured persons.
After initial treatment, the five injured persons were later referred to Government Hospital Anantnag and seven to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu for specialised treatment.
The injured were identified as Mohammad Zubair, son of Mohammad Shabir of Nowshera District Ramban, Mohammad Nadeem, son of Mohammad Yousuf of Uttarakhand, Rajesh Kumar of Gharota District Jammu, Mohammad Gulzar, son of Mohammad Shafi of Bathindi District Jammu, Din Mohammad, son of Budha Ali of Uttar Pradesh, Mohammad Shahid, Jahangeer Ahmed of Seri District Baramulla, Zahid Farooq of Pattan District Baramulla, Zahoor Ahmed of Lolab District Kupwara, Manzoor Ahmed of Sopore, Abid Hussain of District Kupwara and Mousin, a resident of Chowadhi District Jammu.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained when last reports were compiled.
Meanwhile, the locals said that the tempo traveller was being driven in negligent and rashly manner due to which the accident took place. They said that the concerned agencies are least bothered to keep check over these vehicles.
“Loss of precious lives is not a matter of concern for the concerned agencies, which are responsible to keep check over the vehicles being driven in rash and negligent manner”, the locals said, adding that a check over these vehicles is need of the hour to save precious lives.
However, a case under relevant sections has been registered at Police Station Ramban and investigation started to ascertain the reason behind the accident.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed grief over the loss of lives and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.
“Deeply pained by the road accident near Kela Morh, Ramban. In this hour of grief, I convey my condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. Directed officials concerned to provide best possible treatment to the injured”, the Lieutenant Governor tweeted.
