5 drug peddlers arrested from Anantnag, Kulgam

Srinagar, July 5: Police today said to have arrested five drug peddlers from Anantnag, Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Anantnag, a Police party from Police Post Janglat Mandi at a checkpoint established near Bilal crossing intercepted two persons riding a motorcycle identified as Kowsar Ahmad Khanday son of Mohd Abdullah Khanday resident of Vessu Qazigund and Bilal Ahmad Naikoo son of Nazir Ahmad Naikoo resident of Cheni Chowk Anantnag.
“During checking, officers were able to recover 7160 capsules of banned drugs from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to PS where they remain in the custody,” police said, adding officers have also seized the motorcycle involved in the commission of the crime.
In Kulgam, a Police party from Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established near Alstop on NHW intercepted a vehicle (Xylo) bearing registration number JK14B-6054 driven by one person identified as Mohd Rafiq Barger son of Din Mohammad Barger resident of Lowermunda.
“During checking, officers were able to recover 12kgs of poppy straw and 700 grams of charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, police said.
Also, officers from Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Choimulla Qazigund intercepted a vehicle (Oil Tanker) with two persons on board.
“They have been identified as Sahab Singh alias Rishpal Singh son of Lakhwinder Singh resident of Bagwanthnagar Tehsil Sura, UP and Shanid Gull son of Gull Mohd Bhat resident of Panzath,” police said.
During checking, police said, officers were able to recover 02 kgs of poppy from their possession.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at respective Police Stations and further investigations have been initiated.
