SAMBA, Jan 17: District Administration Samba, in collaboration with Save the Children NGO and Nokia Smartpur project today inaugurated a 5 day community based awareness campaign on Solid Waste Management here in Palli Panchayat, Bari Brahamana.
Deputy Commissioner, Anuradha Gupta, after inaugurating the awareness campaign called upon local communities to participate enthusiastically in the awareness programme and contribute towards a sustainable and eco-friendly environment.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Samba mentioned that the Nokia Smartpur project holds importance as it was on the personal initiative of Lieutenant Governor, J&K, Manoj Sinha that the project was launched on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day on 24th April 2022, the day on which Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Panchayat.
The DC emphasized that Palli Panchayat being a model panchayat is setting precedent of being zero littering and 100% solid waste management Panchayat of the district. She said each household should nurture a champion under Har Ghar Champion campaign and spread the message of disposing waste scientifically. She also exhorted young children present on the occasion to embark upon the journey of converting waste into monetary value through Swachta Bank.
A mobile vehicle was also launched in Palli Panchayat for door to door waste collection.
The 5 Day awareness includes, training on Solid Liquid Waste Management, Participatory Training, Community Based Training on disposal of hazardous waste, concept of reduce, reuse and recycle, besides other host of activities. Save the children along with the officers also organised a rally to create awareness among locals.
The Save the Children resource person Mahindra Upadya gave a detailed power point presentation on wet waste and dry waste management.
Among others Sarpanch Randhir Sharma; Assistant Commissioner Development, Sidarth Diman; District Information Officer Ajay Sharma, BDO Bari Brahmana, CDPO Vijaypur, besides panches of village Palli and students of GHS Palli were present here.
