3 militants arrested in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Oct 29: Five Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured in a militant attack in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar while militants made an abortive bid to blow up the house of a former lawmaker.
Militants this evening fired upon BSF vehicle in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar injuring five BSF personnel. The BSF returned the fire and militants fled under the cover of darkness. The BSF men were moving in a 407 vehicle from Srinagar to their camp in Pantha Chowk area.
Security forces cordoned off the area and conducted searches but the militants fled away. The injured BSF men have been removed to 92-Base Hospital in Srinagar’s Badami Bagh Cantonment.
They have been identified as Head Constable Mohammad Yousuf, ConstableV R Mandal, Constable Surrinder, Constable Govind and Constable Samrat.
Militants this evening hurled a grenade towards the residence of former Legislator Mohammad Razak in Zawoora area of Shopian. The grenade exploded outside the residence. However, no one was injured.
Police this evening arrested three militants after a brief shootout on the outskirts of Srinagar.
Security forces laid a naka at Shalteng after receiving credible inputs that a vehicle carrying a couple of militants with arms and ammunition is on way and heading towards Srinagar.
Security forces intercepted the vehicle near Shalteng, the militants opened fire and managed to escape from the spot. However, a militant was injured in the shootout and the vehicle was again stopped at another naka near hospital.
Militants tried to flee from the spot. However, security forces encircled them. They were bundled into a vehicle and wished away.
They have been identified as Aqib Dhobi, Zahid Rather of Tral in district Pulwama and Tariq Sheikh of Dangarpora in district Pulwama.
A Police officer said that the security forces have seized the vehicle and detained militants. The injured militant has been shifted to JVC hospital for treatment.
Ten grenades and large quantity of AK-ammunition was recovered from the car in which they were travelling.
And fire broke out in the Municipal building in Southern Kashmir’s Shopian district this evening.
Fire broke out at around 8 pm in the main builidng housing the municipal committee offices. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the flames were doused.
Police is investigating whether it was accidental fire or the building was set afire.
