5 accused involved in attack on Kashmir truck booked under PSA

JAMMU, Oct 18: District administration Udhampur today booked five accused involved in October 9 attack on truck causing burn injuries to two persons, one of whom died at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi today, under the Public Safety Act and arrested two more accused taking total arrests to nine.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Danesh Rana told the Excelsior that the authorities have detained five accused under the PSA and converted Section 307 in the case (attempt to murder) to Section 302 (murder charges) after Zahid Ahmad, conductor of the truck and a resident of Anantnag in South Kashmir, who had sustained serious burns, died in Safdarjung hospital this morning.
Rana said the stringent action taken by the police like booking the accused under PSA clearly indicated that the police was determined to act against all those, who tried to violate communal harmony and peace in the region.
“We have acted and acted very swiftly. Prompt action has been taken in the truck attack case. Eight out of nine accused were behind the bars. Murder charges have also been slapped against the accused,’’ the Jammu Police chief said, adding no one will be allowed to disturb peace in the region.
Rana said police have constituted a Special Investigating Team (SIT) in the case to conduct investigations on scientific basis, hold speedy trial and take it to the logical conclusion.
“We will also go into deeper conspiracy in the case and expose it,’’ he said adding anyone found involved in the case, overtly or covertly, will be booked under law of the land.
Meanwhile, sources said, the district police submitted a dossier of 5 persons involved in the attack having a criminal history and several FIRs already lodged against them. These persons had been booked for planning and executing a criminal conspiracy aiming at disturbing peace and public order in the State under a pre-designed and motivated plan.
District Magistrate, Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, after examining the dossiers and involvement of accused in a series of criminal acts including the deadly attack with combustible material on a Kashmir bound truck, issued warrants for detention of the accused under the stringent Public Safety Act and their lodging in the Central Jail.
The criminals booked under the PSA include Sandoor Singh son of Thakur Singh R/o Dheda, Gool, Danish alias Pamma son of Khushia R/o Ward No. 12, Dewak, Udhampur, Harish Singh Katoch son of Chuni Lal Katoch R/o village Bhimdassa, Gool in Ramban, Balbahadur Singh alias Abbu son of Girdhari Lal R/o Moungri, Udhampur and Varinder Singh alias Kaka R/o Nepal, presently putting up at Sambal, Shiv Nagar in Udhampur.
Four other accused persons who were arrested in the case are Jasbir Singh son of Baldev Singh R/o Laddan Power House, Udhampur, Rahul Sharma son of Purshottam R/o Sambal, Udhampur, Suneet Singh son of Pardeep Singh R/o Sambal, Udhampur and Rameshwar Singh alias Gushu son of Karan Singh R/o Sambal.
The accused were booked vide FIR No 368/2015 lodged under Sections 307/336/436/147/ 148/120-B/427 RPC and 3/5 of Explosives Substances Act. Further investigation in the matter was conducted which also revealed that apart from the instant criminal conspiracy aimed at disturbing peace and order in State they were involved in a series of criminal assaults and acts and a number of FIRs lodged while many cases have been challaned.
