49 passengers injured, one serious as bus turns turtle

KATHUA, May 24: Forty nine passengers were injured one of them seriously when a bus bearing number JK02 K6649 carrying them turned turtle at Nagrota Marta this afternoon.
The bus was on its way from Plasi -Basholi to Kathua. The bus was in high speed as the driver wanted to go ahead of the another bus which was also to take the same route within few minutes due to which he failed to maintain control on the steering and the bus turned turtle resulting into injury to 49 passengers.
The driver of the bus Balwinder Singh, son of Tara Chand managed to escape from the spot.
Out of 49 passengers one seriously injured Puran Chand, Son of Tej Ram of Nagrota Marta was referred to JM C Jammu for treatment while the other 10 were referred to District Hospital Kathua and the rest were under going treatment in SDH Basholi. The driver of the bus is still at large. The Police has launched a man hunt to trace the driver. The Basholi Police has also registered a case under Section 279/337 CRPC against the driver.
The SHO Basholi, Raj Kumar Padha said that the said driver is habitual violator of traffic rules and he has already knocked down a lady and is facing trial under Section 304.
He said the Police will make recommendations to RTO for cancellation of the license of the driver for negligent driving.
