Jora inaugurates community hall

UDHAMPUR, May 24: Minister for Urban Development and Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora, on Friday dedicated multipurpose community hall constructed with a cost of Rs. 35 lakh to the people of tehsil Chenani in district Udhampur here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that this hall would be of immense help for the people of the area during their social as well as religious functions on nominal rates.
Jora said that all possible efforts are being initiated for providing better basic facilities to the people. He said that proper functioning of e-governance system in urban local bodies would help enhance the access and delivery of Government services to benefit citizens. Besides, the working of the department would certainly witness transparency in registration of births and deaths, permission of buildings, accrual accounting system which would ease the problems of general public.
Responding to demands projected by MLA Krishan Chander Bhagat, the Minister instructed the officers of local bodies to float tender for construction of first floor of the community hall which would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh. He asked for engaging drivers and sweepers on need basis for better functioning of the Municipal Committee, Chenani.
The Minister said fulfilling people’s aspirations and developmental needs was top agenda of the Government. He assured the people that all their genuine demands would be fulfilled in a phased manner.
The MLA put forth various developmental demands including construction of first floor of community hall, expansion of municipal committee, release of funds for construction of BPL house shelters etc.
Among others, Director Urban Development & Urban Local Bodies, Arun Kumar, Executive Engineer Local Bodies, Tehsildar Chenani, BMO, Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Chenani and prominent citizens of the town were present on the occasion.
