43 kg poppy straw, illicit liquor seized; two brothers among 3 arrested

UDHAMPUR, Feb 16: In its continuous drive against illicit liquor and drugs, Udhampur Police today seized 43 kg poppy straw  and also recovered 45 pouches of illicit liquor besides arresting the accused.
Acting on specific information, a police  party led by SHO Udhampur Inspector Om Parkash Chib,  intercepted a  Truck bearing registration no. JKO5E-8145, during thorough search of the truck, Police  recovered 43 Kg poppy straw (Bhuki) from the truck. Police seized the poppy straw and also arrested  the truck driver  namely Tariq Ahmad and his brother Shoqat Ahmad, resident of Birvaan Budgam   Kashmir.
In this connection, a case under section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur.
Meanwhile, Police also arrested a bootlegger and seized  45 pouches of illicit liquor from his possession when he was moving near Salathia Chowk Udhampur.
The accused was  identified as Gayan Chand of village Charat in Chenani Tehsil. He was travelling on foot near Salathia Chowk when Police team intercepted him and recovered 45 pouches of 250 mlt liquor from his posession. Police arrested the accused and seized the recovered liquor. A case in this connection has been registered at Police Station Udhampur.
