JAMMU, Jan 25: Forty three police personnel from Jammu and Kashmir bagged President Police Medal for Gallantry, Distinguished and Meritorious Services, while J&K Government has announced Sher-i-Kashmir Police Medals for 153 police officers and officials.

The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service have been given to Sham Lal SP Police Headquarters J&K.
Meanwhile, 153 personnel of J&K Police have been awarded Sher-i-Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious Service and Sher-i-Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry on the occasion of Republic Day. One hundred forty seven Police personnel including 32 Gazetted and 115 Non-Gazetted have been awarded Sher-i-Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry. Six officers have been awarded Sher-i-Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

However, on the occasion of Republic Day, 3 prison personnel have been awarded prestigious President’s Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service. Abdul Razak Malla, Assistant Superintendent presently Incharge District Jail Leh, Mohinder Singh Assistant Superintendent, Sub Jail Hiranagar and Yog Raj Head Warder, Central Jail Jammu (Kot Bhalwal) are among the recipients. All these officials have raised from the rank of warders due to their hard work, dedication and extra ordinary performance in the field and were thus recommended and nominated by the State Government for the said award.
Meanwhile 10 officers and officials have also been awarded Director General’s Prison Medal for their consistent and outstanding performance in their duty/job by the J&K Prison Department. They include Superintendent Jails Saba Shawl, presently posted as Principal Institute of Correctional Services Mishriwalla Jammu, Mushtaq Ahmad Malla Superintendent District Jail Kathua, Pharmacist Shuban Lal Bhat, District Jail Jammu, Headwarders Ashok Kumar of Sub Jail Hiranagar and Manjeet Singh District Jail Jammu, SG Warder Pawan Kumar of District Jail Udhampur and Prison Warders Mohammad Hussain, Sub Jail Reasi, Bilal Ahmad Khan and Altaf Hussain, both from Central Jail Srinagar and Kulbir Singh of Direction Office. The award carries cash reward as well as commendation certificate.
Two slain CRPF jawans were decorated with the Kirti Chakra, the second highest peacetime gallantry medal of the country, and their commander was awarded the Shaurya Chakra for displaying dare devilry in taking on heavily armed terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Awantipora in 2017.
The military decorations have been bestowed on constables Pradip Kumar Panda and Rajendra Kumar Nain, who were killed while fighting the militants who stormed their camp in Awantipora, while their commander Assistant Commandant Zile Singh has been awarded the Shaurya Chakra, the third highest bravery decoration, on the eve of the Republic Day.
The three displayed exemplary bravery to thwart the deadly fidayeen attack that was carried out on December 30, 2017, and went on for over 36 hours, an official citation said.
Three heavily armed terrorists were killed by the CRPF personnel after the gun battle ended.
Five troops of the force were also killed in this pre-dawn attack on the multi-acre camp that also serves as training centre for jawans inducted for counter-militancy operations in the Kashmir Valley.
CRPF Commandant Vinay Kumar Tiwari has been awarded PMG for his active contribution on the ground in the operation from September 24 to 26 2017 at Chidi Maidan Kalgai under jurisdiction of Police Station Uri, in which he neutralized 4 JeM fidayeens without caring for his life.
