RAMBAN, Aug 25: Forest officials cleared nearly 410 kanals of land and removed illegal encroachment on Forest area by a dozen persons in Mohumangat area of Banihal under Ramban Forest Division.
Official sources said that team of Forest officials led by Range officer Banihal Angrez Singh, under the supervision of DFO Zuhaib Choudhary launched operation and retrieved 410 kanals of land despite tough resistance by the locals of Hijwa area falling in Compartment No. 26 in Banihal Range. The Forest team also booked 12 persons in this connection. They are Ghulam Rasool, Ghulam Hassan, Ghulam Rasool Surkh Abdullah Surkh, Kamaal Surkh, Ali Mohd Surkh, Gh Mohd Surkh, Abdul Aziz Surkh, Abdul Rehman Surkh, Shaban Surkh, Mohd Rafiq and Bashir Ahmed Surkh, all residents of Hijwa in Mohumangat area.
Meanwhile, Forest team seized 48 scants of Deodar and Kail from two locations of Mohu nalla in Banihal Range and transported it to Banihal depot of Forest Department. The timber was hidden by some people in Compartment No. 38 of Banihal range. The police team has taken cognizance of the matter.
