SRINAGAR : Chanting of vedic hymns and traditional rituals associated with annual Amarnath yatra were performed at Pahalgam on the occasion of “VYas-Purnima”.
Meanwhile, Mahant Deepdra Giri, custodian of Chhari Mubarak”, Silver Mace of Lord Shiva said people of Jammu & Kashmir irrespective of their caste, creed or religion have been cooperating, assisting in peaceful and successful conduct of the pilgrimage.
Led by Mahant Giri, scores of sadhus and other pilgrims took the ” Chhari Mubarak”, from Dashnami Akhara near here to Pahalgam, base camp of Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir Himalayas on the occasion of Vyas Purnima.
Mahant Giri said that ‘Bhoomi-Pujan’, ‘Navgrah-Pujan’, ‘Chhari-Pujan’ and ‘Dhawajarohan’ ceremonies were performed chanting Vedic hymn at Pahalgam on the occasion of ‘Vyas-Purnima’ that marks the commencement of annual pilgrimage.
These are important rituals prior to main course of annual pilgrimage of Amarnath.
The sound of conch shell reverberated the whole atmosphere. Sizable number of Sadhus and pilgrims were present on the occasion and also participated in the Pujan.
Addressing on the occasion Mahant Giri said, “People of Jammu & Kashmir irrespective of their caste, creed or religion have been cooperating, assisting and encouraging the pilgrims and Sadhus who come here from across the country and even abroad for this annual pilgrimage”.
Mahant suggested on the occasion that Amarnath Yatra is a pilgrimage and it should be arranged and undertaken in that perspective only and pilgrims should follow the tradition as mentioned in our scriptures.
He suggested that all the concerned quarters should put their heads together to devise a mechanism to ensure that there is no re-occurrence of such mishaps in future, when asked to comment on the loss of lives during the ongoing unrest in the valley.
Mahant Giri expressed his satisfaction after performing these important rituals at Pahalgam but regretted for not allowed to visit Martand Tirth, Mattan . (AGENCIES)
