4 police men injured in militant attack, massive manhunt launched

SRINAGAR, June 12: Four police men were injured while two escaped unhurt in a militant attack on a police party in South Kashmir district of Anantnag this evening.
Police said that a police party from police Station Qazigund had gone to settle a land dispute in the village and when they were returning militants fired upon them at village Bonagam in Qazigund in Anantnag district.
Police said that four cops were injured in the attack and condition of two of them is stated to be critical. The injured have been identified as Mohammad Yaqoob, Mohammad Altaf, Manzoor Ahmad and Manzoor of police Station Qazigund.
Reports said that the militants were waiting for the police party on a motor cycle and when the police vehicle just crossed them, they fired at their vehicle indiscriminately, leaving four police men injured.
The militants fled on the motor cycle after the attack and cops were rushed to the nearby Sub-district Hospital Qazigund. Two of the injured were shifted to 92-Base hospital of Army at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar and their condition is stated to be critical.
Police and Army rushed to the spot and a massive manhunt has been launched against the militants responsible for the attack.
This is the third attack in Anantnag district of South Kashmir since last week. Militants last week carried out two attacks on security forces at Bijbehara and Anantnag town, killing three BSF men and two policemen including an officer respectively.
Police and Army have already launched a manhunt against the militants who carried out attack at Anantnag and Bijbehara. So far eight persons were arrested and over a dozen persons were rounded up for questioning.
Anantnag attack was carried out by the militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba who were caught on a camera while carrying out the attack on police.
Police have already circulated posters of the two LeT militants in Anantnag district. These militants have been identified as Junaid Ahmad Mattoo son of Manzoor Ahmad Mattoo resident of Khudwani in Kulgam district and another as Ali, a foreigner.
Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two youth including brother of a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant allegedly involved in the attack. One of the detained youths, Waseem Ahmad Lone, is the brother of Junaid Lone, the LeT militant hailing from Khudwani.
After their arrest, six more youth were detained so far in connection with Anantnag attack on Police. They are Aqib Sofi, son of Abdul Rashid Sofi, Arif Sofi, son of Fayaz Ahmad Sofi, Shafat Sofi, son of Mohammad Yousuf Sofi, Majid Ali, son of Ali Mohammad Mattoo, Omar Rasheed, son of Abdul Rasheed Wani and Yamin Yousuf alias Bilal, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar, all residents of Khudwani in Kulgam district.
