4 OGWs, militant arrested

Srinagar, Sept 8: Police today arrested three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit from Hajin area in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district while another was arrested from Anantnag and a militant along with arms was arrested from Kulgam district.
Police said that Police Station Hajin received information from reliable sources that some miscreants at the behest of local active militants of LeT outfit hoisted Pakistani flags at Main Bazar Hajin aiming to create fear psychosis and incite anti-national feelings among the common people of Hajin town.
A case (FIR no. 35/2020) was lodged under relevant Sections of law and investigation initiated.
Three persons Mujeeb Shamas, Tanveer Ahmad Mir and Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, all residents of Mir Mohalla Hajin were arrested and they admitted their involvement in the crime.
One hand grenade, cloth, sewing machine and other incriminating material used in preparing flags were recovered from their procession. “Further investigation in this matter is going on”, police said.
Security forces arrested a militant near Jawahar Tunnel in Kulgam district of South Kashmir and recovered two AK-47 rifles from his possession.
An OGW of militants was arrested from Okura area of Mattan in district Anantnag today. Some ammunition was also revered from him.
Security forces today resumed the anti-militancy operation in Kawoosa village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district after it was halted late yesterday night due to darkness.

A joint team of police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Kawoosa area of Narbal in district Budgam yesterday afternoon based on a specific input about the presence of militants in the area.
As the joint team of security forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter.
A senior official said that there was one militant and two OGWs. However, the militant managed to escape. He said that those working near the river in the area said that the militant jumped into river.
Security forces pressed boats into service to trace whether any militant had drowned in the nearby river during the initial shootout. The searches continued throughout the day and no traces of any militant were found.
Militants this evening hurled a grenade on a CRPF camp in Nowdal area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The grenade was lobbed on camp of 180 battalion of CRPF in Nowdal which it exploded outside camp. However in this incident no loss of life or injury has been reported. The area was cordoned off to nab the attackers.
