JAMMU, Oct 31: Four passengers were killed and six others injured today when a passenger taxi they were travelling in hit the parapet in Jhajjar Kotli area here on city outskirts on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
According to the reports, the mishap occurred this morning at about 6 AM when a Xylo car bearing registration number JK10-5029 which was on its way from Leh to Jammu hit the parapet near Nandini tunnel on the National Highway.

“The vehicle was ferrying ten passengers including the driver, some Bihari labourers and one Army person. While four persons died on the spot, six others, including driver, suffered injuries,” a police official said, adding, police along with locals launched the rescue operation and shifted the dead as well as injured to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu.
He said among dead were Jatinder Kumar (29) of Bihar and an Army man identified as Daljeet Singh (27) son of Karan Singh, resident of Maanpur (Punjab), who was on the way to his home to perform last rites of his mother, Haji Ram Thakur (37) of unknown residence and one unidentified male of age about 45 years.
“The injured persons were identified as Mohd Mumtaz (31) and Rinku Kumar (27) of Bihar, Bablu (30) of unknown residence, driver Anil Sharma (30) son of Hari Ram, resident of Doda and two unidentified men of age about 40 and 45 years,” the official informed.
Quoting an accident victim, who was injured in the mishap, SHO, police station Jhajjar Kotli, Inspector Rajesh Khajuria said that the mishap occurred as the driver had a sudden nap while driving. He said most of the passengers were also sleeping when the accident occurred.
He said that a case in this connection was registered at police station Jhajjar Kotli and further investigations started while the kin of the deceased and injured persons (those identified) have been informed about the tragic mishap. He further shared that all the injured persons shifted in the GMCH Jammu are responding to the treatment and their condition is stable.
