JAMMU, Oct 5: Banihal, Gangyal and Talab Tillo police arrested four drug traffickers and recovered poppy straw and intoxicant capsules.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Banihal Police Station laid a naka near T Chowk and intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB19H-8005 after a chase near Shfaa Pani area.
During checking, police recovered 200 kilograms of poppy straw, which was concealed beneath of apple boxes in 10 gunny bags and arrested the driver, who has been identified as Rajesh Kumar Saini, son of Swarn Singh Saini of Tehsil Phgwara District Kapurthala.
In initial questioning, it came to fore that the arrested driver was a habitual drugs peddler as he had smuggled the drugs consignments to Punjab in the past also.
Police team led by SHO Banihal Inspector Aejaz Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Sajjad Sarwar, Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma.
Meanwhile, on reliable information, a team from Gangyal Police Station led by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali under the supervision of SDPO South Dr Sunniya Ashkoor Wani, SP South VInay Kumar and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta laid a naka near Model Town and intercepted a person, who was moving under suspicious circumstances.
During frisking, police recovered 500 intoxicant capsules from the possession of the person and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Manveer Singh, son of Vijay Singh, a resident of Raina Colony Babliana. He was also involved in NDPS Act case registered with Police Station Gandhi Nagar.
In another similar incident, a police team led by DySP Operation Devinder Singh and Incharge Police Post Talab Tillo SI Vikrant Singh laid a naka at Paloura and intercepted a tanker bearing registration number JK08A-7839.
During the comprehensive search of the vehicle, police recovered around 10 quintals of poppy straw concealed in the chamber of the tanker and arrested two persons, who have been identified as Irshad Ahmed Sheikh, son of Abdul Gani Sheikh of Bemina Srinagar and Mohammad Haneef, son of Hassan Mohammad, a resident of District Rajouri.
The whole exercise was closely monitored by SP Operation Jammu Sandeep Mehta and was carried out under the supervision of SHO Nowabad Inspector Neeraj Bhagat, SDPO West Pranav Mahajan, SP City Amrit Pal Singh and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
Cases under relevant sections have been registered ay Banihal, Gangyal and Nowabad Police Stations and investigation started.
