4 deaths in Kashmir, COVID-19 toll crosses 100 mark in J&K

228 including 71 police, CRPF men test +ve

SRINAGAR, June 30: The COVID-19 deaths in Jammu and Kashmir today crossed 100 mark with 4 more deaths reported here while 228 persons including 71 police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and 7 from Army Goodwill School Khanabal tested positive for coronavirus in the Valley.
A 65-year-old man from Qamarwari area of Srinagar tested positive for Coronavirus hours after his death at SMHS hospital in Srinagar. He was suffering from bilateral pneumonia.
He died this morning at 9.30 a.m and his swab sample returned positive at the CD diagnostic laboratory in the afternoon. The man was admitted to the SMHS hospital’s isolation ward yesterday.
A 23-year-old COVID-19 positive man from Shopian district of South Kashmir who was shifted from SMHS hospital yesterday to CD hospital died today. He was having head injury and was in serious condition.
The 65-year-old COVID-19 positive woman from Bhagat Barzulla who was on ventilator in CD hospital died today. She was hypertensive, diabetic and had other ailments.
A 55-year-old COVID-19 positive man from Baramulla district died at SKIMS Medical College hospital Bemina here. A resident of Dewan Bagh Baramulla, the businessman was admitted to SKIMS Bemina on June 27. He was suffering from pneumonia.
With these deaths, 100 COVID-19 people have so far died in J&K- 89 from the Valley and 12 from Jammu division.
Srinagar district with 24 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla 16, Kulgam 13, Shopian 12, seven each from Jammu and Budgam and Anantnag and Kupwara 5, Pulwama four while one death each has been reported from Bandipora, Poonch, Doda, Udhampur, Rajouri and Kathua.
And 60 paramilitary personnel and 11 policemen were among 2280 people who tested positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir today taking the number of corona positives in J&K to 7497.
Among them, 64 are from Kulgam, 46 from Srinagar, 44 from Baramulla, 19 each from Shopian and Budgam, 17 from Anantnag, 14 from Pulwama, three from Bandipora, one each from Kupwara and Ganderbal.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan, told Excelsior that 2278 samples were processed at the Viral Diagnostic Laboratory and 145 tested positive for the virus.
He said that 60 of them were from CRPF Battalions, 19 from Shopian, 18 from Anantnag, 17 from Srinagar, 13 from Pulwama, seven from Baramulla, four from Kulgam, two each from Ganderbal, Budgam and Bandipora besides one from Kupwara. The Anantnag cases include seven from Army Goodwill School Khanbal.
The CRPF cases are from 29 battalion Pantha Chowk, 44 battalion HMT Srinagar, 18 battalion Kulgam while Pulwama cases include 11 from Police Station Rajpora.
Principal SKIMS Bemina, Dr Riyaz Untoo, told Excelsior that 501 samples were processed at the hospital’s Virology Lab and 36 tested positive for COVID-19 including 20 from Srinagar and 16 from Budgam.
An official said that 838 samples were processed at the Virology Laboratory at CD hospital Srinagar and 47 tested positive. They include 2 Army men from Badami Bagh Cantonment Srinagar, 38 from Baramulla, three from Srinagar and one each from Budgam and Pulwama districts.
Meanwhile, 115 COVID-19 positive patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals in Kashmir.
