4 cops hurt, 5 held in midnight drama

JAMMU, Aug 9: Six youth gave a Bollywood like chase in their Chevrolet Beat car to City South Police in wee hours of this morning before being intercepted by Gandhi Nagar police and a Flying Squad at Panama Chowk. Four police personnel were injured in the collision but it was only in the morning that five youths were arrested while one of them remained at large.
Injured police personnel have been identified SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Gurmeet Singh, Sub Inspector Ashok Bajaj and constable Harvinder Singh.
Police said a naka team of Gandhi Nagar police intercepted Chevrolet Beat bearing No. 9468 JK02A at Nanak Nagar at 1.45 am. As the car sped away on observing police naka party, the cops became alert and started chasing it. Nanak Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Asia Crossing, Vikram Chowk, Ware House and Bagh-e-Bahu were few nakas to be named which the car crossed despite being chased by several Flying Squads and police Gypsies.
It was finally at 2.10 am that the car was intercepted by Gandhi Nagar police Gypsies and Flying Squad by blocking the road. The car was extensively damaged as it tried to break the police barrier of vehicles too.
As the police personnel including the SHO were injured, all six youth fled away from the spot.
The injured cops were hospitalized. Harvinder Singh had a serious fracture in the arms while the SHO and the SI had other injuries.
The car was seized. Five accused were arrested this morning. They have been identified as Sahil Mehra and Shubam Mehra of Digiana, both brothers, Jassanjit Singh of Shastri Nagar, Rahul Sharma of Nanak Nagar and Prince Mahan of Rampura, the owner of the car.
Gagan Singh of Luxmi Narayan temple was absconding.
Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against all accused at Gandhi Nagar police station.
