3Hs in Human Life

Niraj Dubey

According to Buddhist saint Dalai Lama, “Happiness is the highest form of health. The most important thing is to enjoy your life to be happy-it’s all that matters. Happiness is the secret to all beauty. Happiness is when, what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” According to Mahatma Gandhi – It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver. Life is a wonderful, challenging, joyful, heart-breaking, painful, blessed, love filled and inspiring experience. We also get to make choices. We have the choice of how we want to take care of our health. We get to choose to pursue balance and harmony or life in disorder. We have the choice to focus on joy and happiness or seek out negativity. Happiness is a state of consciousness of harmony and peace between all the elements of a human being; between their thoughts, feelings, will-power, and even their physical body. Think, feel and act in harmony with the luminous forces and beings of nature and the whole universe. The best form of medicine is that which is practised every day by the way you live, the way you think, feel, believe, love and nourish yourselves. Every Human Being aspires to be happy. All his efforts are toward this end. The outcome from his efforts depends on the focus of the effort, specifically on his notions about happiness. When these notions are right, the outcome is mutual happiness. When the notions are wrong, the outcome is unhappiness. The purpose of education is to establish right understanding in the human being so that by a certain age, the individual is able to gain clarity about happiness and the programs to ensure it. The process which enables a human being to lead a happy life in continuity regardless of region, caste, creed, gender, race etc. can be termed as universal human education. On closer observation, we can see that every human being aspires for a way of life which ensures happiness for all human beings living in harmony with nature. At an individual level, happiness is harmony and integration among all four dimensions within the self – Thought, Behaviour, Work and Realization. At the level of society, individuals aspire to ensure harmony and integration among four levels – Individual, Family, Society and Nature. This is the aspiration; this is the desire, this is the innate need of every human being, regardless of age, gender, caste, creed, nation and beliefs. Happiness can be experienced as momentous and temporary. It can also inform our lives in a lasting way in the form of joy. This is because joy is a state of being human. Thus, joy is a form of being that recognizes the centrality of the self to the reality of the world. Being a good/happy person can mean different things to different people. To some of us, it is based on a moral compass that revolves around charity, generosity, empathy, doing no harm to others or the self and other such values whereas others associate these terms with material wealth , good careers and high standards of living. Harmony in the soul mind and body is the key to ultimate wellness and happiness, and as such attaining this balance should be an important goal for every individual. However, most people rarely give it a thought. In today’s materialistic world most people spend time and effort concentrating on the surface demands and needs of the brain and body, and ignore the mind and soul. Happiness may be defined as being in harmony/synergy in the state/ situation that I live in. Happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, love, satisfaction, pleasure or joy. Happiness may be described as consisting of positive emotions and positive activities. There may be three kinds of happiness: pleasure, engagement, and meaning. Happiness by far because it is choice. It leads to better health, better life decisions, and better relationships. All of these things create a positive feedback loop that makes you happier and healthier. In other words, freedom from want and distress, consciousness of the good order of things, assurance of one’s place in the universe or society, inner peace and so forth. Everyone has to understand the power of peace and harmony, art of living and tranquillity in their life one day or the other. I too recognized that ego, guilt and shame are the things that can prevent an individual from attaining mental peace. These feelings can be nurtured by you or may be a result of some wrong advice or guidance. When we start talking about health we tend to associate it with food or exercise, or both. We don’t often look at the mind or soul. Health is defined as the absence of disease but wellness is actively working towards a healthy mind, body, and spirit and beginning to see the results of that effort. Spiritual health is an important facet of wellness that is highly individualized. It encompasses everything from gratefulness, thankfulness, and contentment to being at harmony in your life to finding peace through the challenging moments. Harmony is, at its most basic level, finding a balance between the joy and suffering in your life.
Ultimately, we would prefer to live life without pain but, if we never experience that pain, how will we ever truly appreciate and embrace the joy? There again life presents a perfect example of harmony: pain and joy, noise and silence, absence and presence, hate and love. Harmony is learning how to deal with the pain and then focus on the joy and revel in those moments. The author would like to conclude this article that, “Neither health nor happiness is more important than the other. If they are genuine, they are the same thing. If you are healthy, but unhappy, you’re not healthy. If you’re happy but unhealthy, your happiness is a delusion – further sign of poor health”. 3H will change our lives drastically making us a good citizen and our society a better place to live in.
