375 FIRs registered, 476 persons booked during lockdown: SSP

*Rs 2000 fine imposed on people for not wearing masks

JAMMU, May 27: Three hundred seventy five FIRs have been registered and 476 persons were arrested till day in Jammu district in wake of second wave of COVID pandemic.
This was disclosed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Chandan Kohli while interacting with the EXCELSIOR.
“375 FIRs were registered and 476 persons were arrested since authorities imposed lockdown in Jammu district in wake of second wave of Coronavirus”, SSP said and also informed that 4635 people were challaned and fine to the tune of Rs 20,85,000 was recovered from the violators of the Corona Curfew.
SSP added that the policemen standing on the ground are facilitating the movement of the health workers, people in need of health services and other essential purposes.
He said that 98 per cent vaccination of the police personnel has been done in the Jammu District, adding that police personnel are performing their duties in COVID care centres, mortuary rooms and even in hospitals and also extending all possible help wherever needed.
As COVID positive cases continue to rise, SSP Jammu advised all the members of the public to avoid unnecessary travel, visit only local and nearby shops for essentials and medicines, use masks and sanitizers and avoid crowds.
However, to reach out to the people who are aged, nursing and lactating women and other specially abled persons, a unique initiative has been taken by District Jammu Police to provide door step delivery of essential services which include medicines, groceries etc, SSP Chandan Kohli said, adding that civil society members and NGOs have been roped in for reaching out to the people in distress.
SSP informed that the essential services shall be provided in all the areas of Jammu District, adding that people in distress can contact on the 0191-2453937 or 0191-2457178 (24×7) or can WhatsApp on 8803637579 for delivery of any essentials.
Meanwhile, according to SSP Kathua RC Kotwal, a fine of Rs 2000 was imposed on 4 persons for not wearing face masks. He has appealed to the general public to follow the guidelines issues in wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
