366th edition of Vijeshwar Panchang released

JAMMU, Dec 13: Maintaining that Panchang is an authentic document of Kashmiri Pandit community, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, Prof Manoj Dhar today said there is no KP family which does not know about the Panchang and its relevance.
Prof Dhar was addressing a function as chief guest at Jyotshi Karyalya, Gole Gujral near here where the new edition of Vijeshwar Panchang for the year 2020 -2021 was released.
Prof Veena Pandita, Chairperson J&K Board of School Education was the guest of honour.
Prof Dhar, while terming Vijeshwar Panchang a sacred granth for the KPs said it links the community to its roots. In this dharmic granth every aspect of rituals from Janamdin (birthday) Pooja to Antim Kriya (last rites) is contained. The Panchang has done a great service to the community not in Valley but after the mass exodus of the KPs by keeping its culture and age old traditions alive, he added.
Prof Dhar said that Kashmiri Pandits follow scientific methods in practicing the religion and expressed his great pleasure over the settling of dispute on Shivratri celebrations onwards this year. He complimented KP Sabha chief, K K Khosa who too was present on the occasion for his role in this regard.
Dr Veena Pandita, Chairperson J&K School Board in her address said that Panchang makes the community aware about their rituals and traditions as well as religious practices followed since times immemorial. It is a way of living for KPs based on science and Shastras. Even after mass migration from Valley it became a Margdarshak (guiding force) for the community members even putting up in foreign countries. Swami Kumar Ji of Geeta Satsang Ashram Muthi also highlighted the relevance of the Panchang for KPs which he termed is a dharmik and sacred Granth for the community. He also suggested some reforms in the community in view of the changing scenario after the mass exodus.
Pt Omkar Nath Shastri, Sampadak Vijeshwar Panchang said that it is the 366th edition of the Panchang. He highlighted the significance of Panchang for the KPs .
The function was organized by Pt Prem Nath Shastri Sanskrit Shodh Sansthan. Avtar Krishan Shastri publicity secretary of the Sansthan was also present on the occasion. The stage was managed by P K Raina. On the occasion a renowned Saint Parmanand’s Karambumika’s translated version by Pt Omkar Nath Shastri and Dr M K Bharat under the title Shareer Rupi Karambhumika was also released.
