34 test +ve for COVID-19 in Kashmir, tally crosses 700

SRINAGAR, May 3: Five members of a family including a 4-year-old boy from Budgam were among 34 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir today, taking the number of Coronavirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir past 700.
Kupwara reported 11 cases followed by Anantnag 10, Budgam five, Shopian four, Baramulla three and Pulwama recorded one case today taking the number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 701.

Among the fresh cases in the Valley, 24 were confirmed out of 826 samples tested at Viral Diagnostic Lab of SKIMS Soura. Ten other cases, all from Anantnag were confirmed out of 846 samples tested at the COVID-19 testing laboratory at Chest Disease hospital Dalgate.
Nine out of 11 cases from Kupwara are residents of Gonipora Handwara and include 3 and 11-year-old girls, four women aged 21, 40, 55 and 75 years besides three men with one of them aged 45 years while two others 65 years each. The other two include 40-year-old man from Warpora and 44-year-old man from Neelipora Handwara.
Anantnag cases include five persons from village Pushoo in district Anantnag and include 3 and 14-year-old girls besides three women two aged 31 years each and another a 50-year-old. The other cases from the district include 30-year-old woman from Shangus Anantnag, 26-year-old and 55-year-old women from Kharpora while two others are 33-year-old man and 66-year-old women from Hillar.
Budgam cases are family members of a person who tested positive for COVID-19 on May 1 and include three women aged 30, 37 and 50 years besides a 4-year-old boy and a 42-year-old man from Charar-e-Sharief.
The four cases from Shopian include 14 and 18-years-old girls besides a 23-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man from Heerpora, one of the most affected areas in the district.
Baramulla reported three cases and include 17-year-old youth besides 19-year-old and 24-year-old women from Hardu Chillo area of the district.
A 7-year-old girl from Drabgam area tested positive. She is the contact of already COVID-19 positive case.
With these cases, Bandipora has 128 positive cases with 91 active, followed by Srinagar with 106 cases including 35 active, 106 in Anantnag with 104 active, 91 in Baramulla with 54 active, 81 in Shopian with 62 active, 66 in Kupwara with 43 active, 26 in Budgam with 14 active, 14 in Ganderbal with zero active cases, 11 in Kulgam with 8 active cases and 8 in Pulwama with 5 active cases.
Out of 701 positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir, 406 are active positive, 287 have recovered and eight have died.
Out of 26038 tests conducted so far, 25337 samples have tested as negative and 701 as positive.
So far 75838 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases were enlisted for surveillance which include 10751 persons in-home quarantine, 183 in Hospital Quarantine, 406 in hospital isolation and 7104 under home surveillance. Besides, 57386 persons have completed their surveillance period.
And the lockdown across Kashmir continued for the 46nd day today with authorities acting tough against the violators of Government orders issued to prevent spread of Coronavirus.
Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads and they had erected concertina wire to block the roads to prevent movement of people and vehicles.
And Mayor of Srinagar Municipality Corporation (SMC) and its Commissioner are among dozens of officials and Corporators of the Corporation who have been asked to go for quarantine till the sample for COVID-19 of one of the Corporators is tested.
The Corporator had been at the forefront of the sanitation drive during the fight against Coronavirus but his brother had concealed travel history and tested positive for COVID-19.
Mayor Junaid Mattu, Deputy Mayor Parvaiz Qadri, Corporators Zubair Fayaz, Uman Maqbool, Nazir Gilkar, Shaheena, Arif Raja, Aqib Ahmed Renzu, Tanveer Pathan, Inayat Hussain Mir, Saleem Lone, Aga Syed Hussaini, Danish Bhat, Muktar Ahmed and Hanief Ahmed, personal private staff of the Mayor Sheikh Firdous, Fida Hussain and Firdous Ahmed have been asked to go for home quarantine till sample of the Corporator is tested.
Commissioner SMC Gazanfar Ali, Joint Commissioner Syed Abul Qasim and Secretary Sofi Akbar have also been asked to go for home quarantine.
