Another soft drinks company staffer positive
Ladakh reports 36 new Corona cases

JAMMU, July 7: In fresh spike in COVID cases, 75 persons including 18 para-military personnel, nine Army soldiers and seven police constables including four more in Police Training School (PTS) Kathua and four GREF personnel stationed at Trikuta Nagar, totaling nine in past one week, one more staffer of a soft drinks company and three vendors in Sunderbani town of Rajouri district tested positive for COVID-19 while 22 Corona patients were treated and discharged from the hospitals today.
Twenty-three persons tested Corona positive in Doda and Kishtwar districts including 11 CRPF, one CISF and an Army personnel. Two women hailing from Kulhand and Dudwar in Doda also tested positive for the virus. Rest of the positives in two districts were travelers and under administrative quarantine. The Army and para-military jawans were also under quarantine at their respective formations.
In Jammu district, four more GREF personnel stationed at their location in Trikuta Nagar tested positive for COVID-19 today taking total number of positives from the same camp to nine. Five personnel had reported positive last week and today’s positives were apparently their contacts. An ex-serviceman too reported Corona positive in Jammu.
A 48-year-old woman from RS Pura town, whose son and husband were already Corona positives, today reported positive for the virus. Her son, who has now been treated for the virus, had travel history of Mumbai.
Other positives of Jammu district include a 30-year-old woman from Nanak Nagar with no travel history, 36-year-old woman from Rathana, a 41- year-old woman from Gandhi Nagar and 38-year-old man from Mishriwalla.
Another staffer of the soft drinks company at Bari Barahamana was among three persons who tested positive in Samba district.
With this, total number of positive employees of the soft drinks company has climbed to 34, SSP Samba Shakti Pathak told the Excelsior saying the positive employee belonged to Sector 10, Nanak Nagar. Two other positives of the district were 32-year-old youth from Bari Brahamna with travel history of West Bengal and a 54-year-old man from Gho Manhasan Ramgarh, who had returned from New Delhi.
“Some of the employees of the soft drinks company will be re-sampled as the staffers with whom they were putting up have tested positive,” Pathak said, adding that sampling of family members of the company’s employees is also on.
Rajouri district recorded single day highest number of 20 Corona positive cases today including three from Sunderbani town with no travel history prompting authorities to shut most parts of the town by declaring them as Containment and Buffer Zones.
Out of 20 positives in Rajouri district, five were BSF jawans, two Army soldiers, two constables of Indian Reserve Police (IRP) and rest civilians including three vegetable and fruit vendors from Sunderbani and one from Red Zone Peeri. Others were travelers.
SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli said all nine security personnel had travel history and were under quarantine at their own formations.
The district administration has declared Bhajwal, Kund and Ghai areas in Sunderbani town as Containment Zones and their surrounding areas as Buffer Zone and restricted both inward and outward movement of the civilians there. Three persons of Sunderbani town who have tested positive for the virus were fruit and vegetable vendors and were sampled during random testing.
Sunderbani market and town will remain closed for next few days. Administration has started contact tracing of the positive cases for isolation and sampling.
Five BSF jawans who tested positive in Rajouri were posted at Dhangri and had travel history as they had reported back to duty after availing leave. Army and police personnel too had the travel history. A 13-year-old girl from Dhar Sakri, Koteranka also reported positive today.
This is for the first time that 20 Corona positive cases have been reported in Rajouri district in a single day.
In Poonch district, seven Corona cases were detected and all of them were security personnel including six from Army and one from BSF, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said.
All five positive Army personnel belonged to 37 Rashtriya Rifles and were under quarantine at Chattral, Mendhar after returning to duty from leave while the BSF jawan was deployed at Mandi and had travel history of Srinagar.
Six persons have tested Corona positive in Kathua district.
District Magistrate Kathua OP Bhagat said four of the positives were police personnel posted in the Police Training School (PTS) Kathua while two others were travelers including one from Basohli tehsil.
This is for the third consecutive day that four constables have reported positive for COVID-19 from the PTS Kathua totaling 12 in three days. Overall, nearly 25 police personnel from the PTS Kathua have so far reported positive for the virus. However, all of them were returnees, mostly from Kashmir, where they had gone on leave.
Bhagat said 2114 more persons today crossed Lakhanpur to enter Jammu and Kashmir.
Two persons reported COVID positive in Udhampur district today including a 32-year-old man from Chenani having travel history of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and an Army soldier hailing from Chenani Ghordi, who had returned from New Delhi.
Two civilians tested positive in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Mohammad Fareed Bhat said.
He said one of the civilians was a contact of positive case hailed from village Chareel while other was a shopkeeper from Thathar.
Reasi district didn’t report any Corona positive cases today.
A total of 22 Corona patients were today treated and discharged from various COVID hospitals in Jammu region including five each from Jammu and Kathua, three each from Samba and Reasi, two each from Rajouri and Kishtwar and one each from Poonch and Doda districts.
Four patients were today treated and discharged from the Chest Diseases Hospital, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, Medical Superintendent Dr Rajeshwar Sharma said.
As per the official figures, Jammu region has 1883 Corona patients including 542 active cases while there have been 14 casualties. As many as 1327 patients have so far been treated and discharged from the hospitals.
A traveler managed to escape from quarantine centre in Udhampur in his car but was traced and brought back.
Meanwhile, 36 more persons today tested positive for Coronavirus in the Union Territory of Ladakh taking total number of COVID patients to 1041.
Of total Corona cases in Ladakh, there were 327 in Leh and 714 in Kargil. However, only 180 cases are active in the UT including 115 in Leh and 65 in Kargil.
As many as 860 Corona patients have been treated and discharged in Ladakh—211 in Leh and 649 in Kargil while there has been just one Corona related death.
Of total positive cases in Ladakh, 11 have been admitted in COVID hospital, 163 were in home isolation and six in COVID Care Centres.
