SRINAGAR, May 4: Spike in the COVID-19 positive cases in Kashmir continued with 3,187 testing positive for the virus while 12 people died here taking the Jammu and Kashmir death toll to 2457.
Those who died include a 57-year-old from Sonawar Srinagar who died at SMHS hospital, a 50-year-old man from Pakherpora Budgam who died at SKIMS Soura, a middle-aged man from Pampore Pulwama who died at CD hospital, a 65-year-old from Anantnag who died at SMHS hospital, 69-year-old man from Watergam Baramulla who also died at SMHS hospital, an 82-year-old man from Hawal Srinagar who died at CD hospital , an 82-year-old man from Batamaloo who died at JLNM hospital Raniwari, a 50-year-old woman from Shangus Anantnag died at SKIMS Soura, an 80-year-old man died at GMC Anantnag, a 55-year-old woman from Asham Bandipora died at JVC hospital , an elderly man from Tral Payeen Pulwama died District Hopsital Pulwama and a 60-year-old man died at SMHS hospital.
Those who tested positive include 1,311 from Srinagar, 352 Baramulla, 386 Budgam, 240 Pulwama, 96 Kupwara, 417 Anantnag, 107 Bandipora, 31 Ganderbal, 162 Kulgam and 85 from Shopian.
As per officials figures, 48,095 positive cases including 565 deaths and 36,782 recoveries are from Srinagar, 14,120 including 203 deaths and 11,054 recoveries are from Baramulla, 11,701′ including 9,513 recoveries and 135 deaths are from Budgam, 7,868 including 6,159 recoveries and 106 deaths are from Pulwama, 7,471 including 104 deaths and 6,192 recoveries are from Kupwara, 8,069 including 5,819 recoveries and 111 deaths are from Anantnag, 5,794 cases including 5,050 and 65 deaths are from Bandipora, 5,686 including 5,051 recoveries and 52 deaths are from Ganderbal, 5,094 including 3,226 recoveries and 69 deaths are from Kulgam and 3,309 including 2,737 recoveries and 42 deaths are from Shopian.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 117,207 including 91,583 recoveries and 1,452 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 37,302 including 24,172 from Kashmir division.
With 1,878 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 152,109, which is 79.27 percent of the total cases.
And the Corona Curfew continued for the fifth day today with police arresting 143 persons and registering 79 FIRs for lockdown violations.
The lockdown was imposed on last Thursday evening and as per the orders will continue to remain in place till Monday in an order to prevent the virus from spreading.
A day after Srinagar witnessed brisk vehicular movement coupled with traffic snarls at various vital junctions, the district administration and police tightened its noose against the SOP violators and seized many vehicles.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Ajaz Asad and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar were seen enforcing the lockdown personally.
Police and paramilitary troops continued to be deployed in large number to enforce the lockdown restrictions. The barricades and concertina wires were erected at many places to prevent the public movement.
All the shops and business establishments barring emergency services and standalone shops remained closed throughout the day in Srinagar and other districts. Besides, the public transport with 50 per cent seating capacity was also allowed to ply today by the authorities.
Police arrested 143 persons, lodged 79 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 84,930 from 620 people for violating the guidelines and rules throughout Kashmir valley. Seven vehicles were also seized in Budgam and Bandipora for violating guidelines and restrictions.
