JAMMU, Jan 29: Police today removed 250 tents and got 3000 kanals of prime land vacated from the land grabbers near Golf Course at Sidhra. The encroachments had been done overnight.
Police sources said they received report early this morning that nearly 250 tents had been erected by the people from Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Bhaderwah and even some locals near Golf Course, Sidhra. The people had encroached upon nearly 3000 kanals of prime land valued at several crores of rupees.
Police said the land belonged to the Government but none of the Departments approached them to get it vacated from the land grabbers.
“Ultimately, we took suo moto action this morning. During the full day long operation supervised by DIG Jammu-Kathua range JP Singh, all 250 tents were removed and the people were evicted from the Government land’’, police said.
It added that with the police action, nearly 3000 kanals of Government land has been saved, which was valued into several crores of rupees.
