RAMBAN, Nov 25: Three workers of AFCON Construction Company were killed, when the Mahindra load carrier they were traveling in, skidded off the road and plunged into gorge at Hingni area, falling under the jurisdiction of Ramsoo police station.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK19-4152 was on its way to the railway tunnel construction site, when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it rolled-down into the gorge near Hingni, resulting into on the spot death of two AFCON workers.
After getting information, police team and locals rushed to the spot and shifted the injured driver to Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Banihal, where he failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Irshad Ahmed (29), son of Ghulam Nabi of Gundoh, District Doda, Ashok Kumar (35), son of Om Prakash of Padder, District Kishtwar and Abdul Gani (driver), son of Ghulam Hassan of Hingni Ramsoo.
After conducting postmortem, the bodies of the deceased were handed over to family members for last rites.
A case in this regard has been registered at Ramsoo police station and investigation started.
AFCON Cons-truction Company provided Rs 10,000 to next kin of the deceased for conducting last rites, but the Workers Union of the company held protest and demanded Rs 20,000. Finally, the Company provided Rs 20,000 to next kin of the deceased for conducting last rites.
