3 units raided, Rs 3.60 cr GST evasion detected

JAMMU, July 10: The J&K Regional Unit of Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) with the assistance of Chandigarh Zonal Unit conducted raids in three premises of manufacturers of TMT bars and cement at Kathua and detected evasion of Rs 3.60 crore tax.
A total of 30 officers were involved in the raids during which gross irregularities were found in the records maintained by these companies. In one unit estimated tax evasion was to the tune of Rs 3.60 crore for the period between August 2019 and March 2020 only.
During search operations, the officers laid hands on many incriminating documents and detailed scrutiny of the same is being carried out to reach at final quantum of tax evasion by these entities.
Earlier, in the month of March this year, officers from Jammu and Kashmir Regional Unit of DGGI led by Dr Iftikhar A Chowdhary unearthed a fraud involving fake supply of goods worth about Rs 1500 crore involving about Rs 175 crore of ITC fraud in five states across India by conducting raids at 30 premises.
