3 soldiers injured, militants slip

Srinagar, Jan 27: After a brief exchange of fire last night, militants managed to give slip to the security forces in Check Nowgam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area last evening.

An official said that as the joint team of security forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, who retaliated, triggering a gunfight.
The official said that during the initial exchange of fire, three soldiers were injured. However, militants managed to escape from the spot.
He said that cordon layers were tightened after initial exchange of fire, nothing has been found so far.
The injured soldiers were identified as Somveer Kumar, Mayank Singh and Sunil Kumar, who were shifted to 92 base hospital Srinagar, where their condition is stated to be stable.
The official said that a foreigner and two local militants were trapped, who managed to flee from the encounter site.
