MENDHAR, July 18: Three members of a family received serious burn injuries as the LPG cylinder leaked in their kitchen and caught major fire in Salwa area of Mendhar in district Poonch this afternoon.

Police said the incident took place in the house of Hakam Din at Salwa. His daughter- in- law, Tazeem Akhtar, wife of Altaf was cooking in the kitchen. Then suddenly the LPG cylinder caught fire and she was trapped in the fire. Her 13-year-old son Zahir was also near her and was also got trapped in flames.
Hearing their cries, Rashid Ahmed, son of Hakam Din rushed to the kitchen and tried to save both son and mother. He managed to douse the fire but was himself trapped in the fire and also sustained serious burns.
All the three injured were rushed to SDH Mendhar and later were referred to Govt Medical College Hospital, Jammu. BMO Mendhar, Dr Parvez Ahmed Khan said that Rashid and Tazeem had sustained about 70 % burn injuries while minor Zahir, nearly 50 burns. They have been shifted to Burn Ward of GMC, Jammu for specialized treatment, Dr Khan said.
