3 militants killed in Tral

SRINAGAR, Nov 20: Three militants were killed in a gun battle in Tral area of South Kashmir district of Pulwama today while a Pakistani Ranger was killed in cross LoC shooting last night.
A police official said that Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Police had laid an ambush near Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Tral Town following the specific information about the movement of militants in the area.
“At 6:35 pm, security forces intercepted the militant group in the area. The militants opened fire on the troops after they were challenged”, the Police officer said.
The officer said that security forces retaliated leading to a fierce gun battle that last for about 10 minutes resulting in killing of three militants.
The militants were identified as Shiraz Ahmad of Panjran Pulwama, Asif Ahmad of Chandigam Kulgam and Riyaz Gojjar of Rajouri. However, the outfit to which they belonged is not known.
A police spokesman said that three unidentified militants were killed in a encounter in Tral this evening.
“A joint patrol party was fired upon by militants at Aab-Ghar Tral. The party retaliated the fire and in the ensuing encounter three unidentified militants have been killed. The identity of the killed militants is being ascertained. One SLR, one carbine , one pistol , grenades and other ammunition have been recovered from the slain militants”, the spokesman said.
Sources said that some gun shots were heard outside the residence of a PDP candidate from Shopian, Advocate Mohammad Yusuf tonight. Security forces immediately cordoned the area and conducted searches. However, police said that it was the sound of fire crackers and no militants were traced.
In the meantime, sources said that Pakistan Army last night violated ceasefire along Line of Control in Uri sector. However, there was no loss of life from Indian side.
Sources said that Army retaliated in which one Pakistan Ranger was killed.
