3 lottery sellers arrested for cheating people

SRINAGAR, Dec 24: Police arrested three lottery sellers who were involved in cheating people at Lal Chowk area here today.
A Police spokesman said that the apprehended persons were found playing lottery/gambling around public place which is a business hub causing inconvenience to general public.
He said on a specific information regarding the presence of some lottery sellers/gamblers in Lal Chowk area, police party of Police Station Kothibagh raided and apprehended three accused persons who were cheating common masses at Abi Guzar area. They were found playing lottery/gambling inside a vehicle bearing No. JK01AH-2517.
He identified the apprehended persons as Nisar Ahmad Shah, a resident of Badshah Nagar, Nazir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Abi Guzar and Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of B B Cant Batwara area.
“In this connection, a case FIR No. 97/2018 U/S 420,294-A RPC 13 Game and Betting Act has been registered and investigation taken up. Stake money of Rs 33080, three mobiles and three diaries with record of lottery numbers were recovered from the possession of accused persons,” he said.
He further said that without any authority/permission from competent authority, illegal selling of lottery tickets in a public place is an offence and violation of J&K Shops and Establishment Act.
