Acting on specific information generated by Shopian police regarding the presence of militants in village Hushangpora Nagbal area of Shopian, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by police, 44 RR of Army and 178 Battalion of CRPF in the area.
A Police spokesman said that during the search operation, as the troops approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon them which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.
He said that three local militants of LeT were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Danish Khursheed Bhat son of Khursheed Ahmad Bhat, resident of Ladi Imamsahib, Tanveer Ahmad Wani son of Bashir Ahmad Wani, resident of Amarbugh Imamsahib and Towseef Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat, resident of Chermarag.
As per police records, all the killed militants were involved in several militancy related incidents including attacks on police, security forces and civilians.
“It is pertinent to mention here that Danish Khursheed Bhat and Tanveer Ahmad Wani who were active since August 2021, were trying to revive the militancy by recruiting and motivating the gullible youth to join militants. Moreover, Danish Khursheed had earlier escaped from several encounters,” the spokesman said.
He said that incriminating materials, arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. “All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” he added.
A case under relevant Sections of law has been registered and investigation initiated.
Several gunfights between security forces and militants have taken place in Kashmir this month in which few militants were killed.
On August 10, the Jammu and Kashmir Police killed three militants, including one suspected to be involved in the killing of actor Amreen Bhat and Government employee Rahul Bhat.
On August 13, a police officer was killed in Kulgam district after suspected militants threw a grenade at him.
