3 LeT associates, injured militant held

Srinagar, Mar 4: A recently joined militant was arrested today after he was injured during a shoot-out that took place at Langate area of Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district while a search for another militant is on.
The encounter broke out shortly after joint security forces including Army, CRPF and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police cordoned off the area following inputs about the presence of militants there.

An official said that during a brief gunfight, one newly recruited militant was arrested in an injured condition along with arms and ammunition.
The officials identified the injured militant as Abrar, son of Ghulam Hassan Gojri of Azadgunj Baramulla. While the search for other trapped militant is going on as the police and security forces are on the job.
The official said that the arrested militant was earlier a stone pelter and two FIRs are already registered against him, adding that later he started working as an OGW and joined the ranks recently.
Meanwhile, a case under relevant Sections of laws has been registered and further investigation has been taken up.
In the meantime, security forces arrested three militant associates of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in South Kashmir’s Shopian district today.
Police along with security forces arrested three militant associates of LeT in Shopian and recovered incriminating materials including arms and ammunition from their possession.
An official said that last evening, a joint naka party of Police and 44RR was laid at Khudpora orchards.
“During naka checking, the movement of three suspects were noticed who were challenged to stop. Instead of stopping they started fleeing away from the spot but were chased and arrested tactfully by the alert joint party,” the official said and identified the trio as Ishfaq Ahmad Dar, son of Muhammad Yaseen Dar of Gadapora Shopian, Nadeem Rafiq Rather, son of Rafiq Ahmad Rather of Killbal Shopian and Rouf Mushtaq Najar, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Najar of Wangam.
He further added that incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one pistol, one pistol magazine, eight pistol rounds, one hand grenade, one AK magazine and 20 AK live rounds were recovered from their possession.
Accordingly, a case under FIR number 19/2022 under relevant of Sections of law stands registered in Police Station Shopian and further investigation into the matter is in progress, he said.
