3 killed in road accidents

SRINAGAR, Oct 20: At least three people lost their lives today in two separate road accidents in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district and north Kashmir’s Sopore area of Baramulla district.

A police spokesperson said that in the first incident, a 33-year-old man died after his car overturned near Bidher Larnoo in the Kokernag area of Anantnag. The spokesperson said the driver of an Alto K10 car, bearing registration number JK03M-9119, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn. “The driver, identified as Umer Malik, son of Ghulam Ahmad Malik of Damhal, sustained critical injuries and was immediately taken to the Primary Health Centre in Larnoo, where doctors declared him dead,” the spokesperson said.
In a separate incident in north Kashmir’s Sopore, two men on duty at a vehicle checkpoint near Chingi, close to Chinar Crossing, were hit by a speeding vehicle on Monday evening. “The vehicle, bearing registration number JK02BW-2197, struck the two individuals who were deployed for vehicle entry checking,” the spokesperson said.  He added, “both injured were rushed to Sub-District Hospital Sopore, where one of them, Bilal Ahmad, 29, son of Wazir Ahmad of Saidpora, was declared dead on arrival.”
He said  that the second person, identified as Shahid Hilal, 25, son of Hilal Ahmad Shah of Nadihal Rafiabad, was shifted to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
The police spokesperson said separate cases have been registered in both incidents. “The driver involved in the Sopore accident has been arrested, and further investigation is underway,” he added.
