RAMBAN, Sept 5: Three persons including 2 drivers were killed while two others received injuries when the vehicles they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into gorge at Digdol and Chamalwas areas on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, here.
As per police sources, a Tata Mobile bearing Registration Number JK19-8284, loaded with poultry was on its way from Ramban towards Banihal, when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it rolled down into 400 feet gorge on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Digdol, resulting into on the spot death of driver and his associate. Hundreds of chicken were also killed in the accident.

After getting information, a team from Ramban Police Station along with QRT volunteers rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies from the gorge.
The bodies were shifted to District Hospital Ramban and after completing medical and legal formalities were handed over to legal heirs for last rites.
The deceased were identified as driver of the vehicle namely Roaf Ahmed (32), son of Mohammad Rafiq and Mohammad Usman Manhas, son of Ayaz Manhas, both residents of Magarkote area of Tehsil Ramsoo, District Ramban.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Ramban Police Station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, a truck bearing Registration Number JK18A-0557 carrying essential items on its way from Jammu towards Srinagar when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it fell into 120 feet deep gorge near Chamalwas, resulting into on the spot death of driver and injuries to two others.
On receiving the information about the accident, a police team accompanied by locals reached the spot and launched rescue operation.
Two injured persons identified as Basir Ahmed (20), son of Nazir Ahmed and Furkan Ahmed (18), son of Altaf Ahmed, both residents of Pampore Srinagar, were rescued and shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Banihal, where they were responding to the treatment, when last reports were compiled.
The body of the deceased identified as Mayassar Ahmed (24), son of Bashir Ahmed of Pampore Srinagar was handed over to family members for last rites after completing all the medical and legal formalities.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Banihal Police Station and investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the accident, which according to the sources was negligent driving.
