JAMMU, Nov 9: Police today arrested three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) operatives from Narwal under the jurisdiction of Trikuta Nagar police station and seized a consignment of arms, ammunition and explosives from their possession which had been dropped through drone from Pakistan and was being taken from the International Border to Srinagar.
The JeM operatives had concealed consignment of weaponry in a specially erected cavity under driver’s seat in oil tanker No. JK02BF 2965 after picking it up and were taking it to a hideout of the militants in Srinagar district, the officials said.
The consignment had been dropped through drone from Pakistan at the behest of Jaish commander Shahbaaz, who is operating from across the border.
Of three Jaish operatives arrested by the Jammu Police, one of them has turned out to be a recycled OGW Mohammad Yaseen son of Mohammad Ismael, originally a resident of Banihal and presently putting up at Puchil in Pampore. He was on medical bail since September 2, 2022 till December 16, 2022.
Yaseen was involved in FIR No. 24/2022 registered under Sections 18, 20, 23, 38 and 39 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and 4/5 Explosives Act at Pampore police station. One hand grenade was then recovered from his possession.
However, despite being on medical bail, he pursued the militant activities.
The JeM operatives were given location of weaponry on WhatsApp.
A search operation has been launched in Narwal and surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, SSP Chandan Kohli said three militant operatives have been arrested from an oil tanker in Narwal area and large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives were recovered from them.
He identified arrested militants as Mohammad Yaseen son of Mohammad Ismael of Puchil Pampore, Farhan Farooq son of Farooq Ahmed and Farooq Ahmed son of Abdul Aziz Bhat, both residents of Drangbal Pampore.
Recoveries made from their possession include three AK-56 rifles, one pistol with nine magazines and 191 rounds and six grenades, Kohli said.
The SSP Jammu said a Trikuta Nagar police station team subjected the oil tanker for checking last night. The cops became doubtful after observing that movement of all three persons in the tanker including the driver was suspicious.
The driver was first taken into custody as he entered into scuffle with the police team followed by his two associates.
Their questioning revealed that they were Jaish-e-Mohammed operatives and were transporting consignment of arms and explosives to Srinagar.
The consignment was recovered from the oil tanker in presence of a Magistrate.
They have been booked at Bahu Fort Police Station.
Major terror plot has been averted with timely arrest of Jaish operatives and recovery of arms, ammunition and explosives from their possession.
Their further questioning is on and police is expecting more vital clues pertaining to militancy including identity of militants to whom they had to deliver the consignment at Srinagar.
