3 drug peddlers arrested with charas, poppy straw

SRINAGAR, July 22: Police today arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam, Handwara, and Baramulla and recovered charas and poppy straw from their possession.
In Kulgam, a police party headed by SHO Police station Behibagh at a checkpoint established at Alamgunj crossing intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.
“During the search, officers were able to recover 11 kgs of Poppy Straw-like contraband concealed in a nylon bag from his possession,” the police said.
The individual has been identified as Arshid Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani Bhat, a resident of Machewa. He has been arrested and taken to the police station where he remains in custody.
In Handwara, a police party from Police Station Qalamabad, at a checkpoint established at Batagund crossing, intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.
“During the search, 50 grams of Charas-like substance were recovered from his possession.”
The person has been identified as Aquib Nazir Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Kargam Handwara. He has been arrested and taken to the police station where he remains in custody.
In Baramulla, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Kreeri Khalid Ashraf, assisted by SHO PS Chandoosa, arrested a drug smuggler during naka checking at Daru Chandoosa.
“During the search, 400 grams of charas-like contraband substance were recovered from his possession,” police said.
The individual has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Rather, son of Gh Mohiuddin Rather, a resident of Bandi Payeen Chandoosa. He has been taken to the police station where he remains in custody.
