JAMMU, Apr 19: Three Dogri books were released at a well-attended literary function organized by Dogri Sanstha Jammu at the Writers Club, here today.
On the occasion, noted writer Chanchal Bhasin’s two children’s books titled “Gandile De Phull” (a collection of short stories), “Taren Di Jhilmil” (a collection of poems) and “Hirakh Di Bel” (a Dogri short story collection) authored by Narender Bhasin, were released. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from writers, scholars, and literature lovers.
The programme was graced by B R Sharma (IAS Retd) as the chief guest and presided over by eminent Dogri scholar and Padma Shri awardee Prof Lalit Magotra whereas Prof Veena Gupta attended the event as guest of honour.
During the programme, papers and critical observations on the books were presented by Prof Veena Gupta, Dr Ashok Khajuria, and Vijay Kumar Bajaj. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Raj Kumar Bahurupia.
Both the authors also shared their literary journeys and experiences with the audience. They spoke about their inspiration to write in Dogri and highlighted the importance of creating meaningful literature, especially for children, in the mother tongue. Young participants Vihan Bhasin, Lakshya Bhasin, and Neeyati Bazaz recited poems from the newly released books.
B R Sharma lauded the efforts of Dogri Sanstha Jammu in promoting regional literature and providing a platform to writers. He observed that literature in regional languages is essential for preserving cultural heritage and inspiring future generations.
Prof Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha Jammu, congratulated the authors and emphasized the significance of enriching Dogri literature. He stated that children’s literature plays a vital role in shaping young minds and strengthening linguistic and cultural identity, and that quality publications in Dogri help preserve the language for future generations.
Prof Veena Gupta appreciated the creativity and dedication of the authors. She remarked that children’s literature written in Dogri nurtures imagination, values, and pride in one’s mother tongue, and contributes significantly to the growth of Dogri literature. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Pawan Verma.
