JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, Mar 29: In fresh spurt in COVID-19 casualties, four persons succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory including three in Jammu region and one in Kashmir yesterday while 235 persons tested positive today as against 309 yesterday including chairperson Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) and a Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in the rank of Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services (JKAS).
This is for the first time this year that three Corona casualties have been reported in a single day in the Jammu region. In another first, number of COVID patients admitted in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu today rose to 20 by this evening as against 2-3 a fortnight ago. The number of patients is highest this year, GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said.
Veena Pandita, chairperson J&K BOSE and Abhishek Abrol, SDM South, who is a JKAS officer, have tested positive for COVID-19 and have gone into isolation. Their contacts have been subjected to testing for the virus. Two senior IAS officers, however, tested negative. Three members of a family from Jeevan Nagar, Digiana, four of a family of Circular Road including three females and two siblings from Channi Himmat have also reported positive for pathogen.
In Jammu district alone, 6500 COVID tests were conducted today including RT-PCR as well as Rapid Antigen (RAT) as the authorities stepped-up testing at various places in view of surge in the Coronavirus cases, Nodal Officer Satish Sharma said.
Amid rising fresh cases, the Jammu and Kashmir Government is expected to come out with revised guidelines for COVID-19 tomorrow which will be applicable from April 1. As reported earlier, the Government could enforce night restrictions in the Union Territory to contain fresh rise in the virus cases but might not impose more curbs that could impact the economy, tourism and studies.
Of three Corona fatalities recorded in Jammu region yesterday, two victims hailed from Jammu district and one from Poonch district.
A 65-year-old man from Bathindi on the outskirts of Jammu City, 70-year-old man from Amrit Nagar, Muthi and 75-year-old from Bafliaz in Poonch district succumbed to Coronavirus and other ailments in different hospitals yesterday but no COVID casualties were reported today.
With three casualties, Jammu region’s COVID toll has risen to 735, the highest being 381 in Jammu district followed by 64 Doda, 57 Udhampur, 55 Rajouri, 53 Kathua, 41 Samba, 25 Poonch, 22 Kishtwar, 21 Ramban and 16 in Reasi district.
Among 235 Corona positive cases reported today in Jammu region, 51 were recorded in Jammu region including 19 in Jammu district, 16 Kishtwar, five each Ramban and Reasi, three Udhampur and one each in Rajouri, Doda and Samba districts. Kathua and Poonch were the only districts where no fresh cases were reported today.
Twenty two persons recovered from the virus, 11 of them in Jammu district, six Doda, three Udhampur and two in Rajouri district.
Yesterday 63 COVID positive cases were reported in Jammu region including 49 in Jammu district, five each Ramban and Kathua and two each in Udhampur and Poonch districts.
Jammu region now has 52775 Corona cases. Of them, 542 are active positives while 51498 have recovered from the virus and there have been 735 casualties.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today reported 184 new cases of COVID-19.
Those who tested positive include 99 from Srinagar, 35 Baramulla, 18 Budgam, 12 Pulwama, 00 Kupwara, 14 Anantnag, 4 Bandipora, 1 Ganderbal and 1 from Shopian.
With fresh cases, the number of active cases in J&K has reached 2110.
The number of positive cases in Kashmir division has reached 77,453 including 74,631 recoveries and 1,254 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 2,110 including 1,568 from Kashmir division.
With 126 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 1,26,129, which is 96.85 percent of the total cases.
Meanwhile, the UT of Ladakh today reported 33 new COVID positive cases, all in Leh district.
With this, number of the active positive cases in Ladakh has gone up to 135.
