3 die of COVID; Dy MS, wife test +ve

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/LEH, Jan 6: Three persons died of COVID-19 in Kashmir and 55 tested positive while no Corona fatality was reported in the Jammu region today where 73 persons tested positive.
Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC) Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Wasiq and his wife Dr Jahan Ara tested positive for the virus in Jammu today. However, in a sigh of relief for the doctors, a youth from Roop Nagar, who had returned from the United Kingdom, tested negative for new virus strain.
The report was received today from NCDC New Delhi, GMC Principal Dr Shashi S Sudhan said.
While 73 persons tested positive in Jammu region, 144 others recovered from the virus.
A 60-year-old man from Urpash village of Ganderbal district, a 75-year-old man from Sangam area of Anantnag district and a 50-year-old man from Magam area of Handwara in Kupwara district died of COVID-19 in Kashmir today.
With these deaths, the total fatality count has reached 1194 in the Valley.
Srinagar district with 450 deaths topped the list followed by Baramulla 172, Budgam 110, Kupwara 93, Pulwama 88, Anantnag 84, Bandipora 60, Kulgam 53, Ganderbal 45 and Shopian 39.
In Kashmir, 55 people tested positive today taking the number of positive cases in J&K to 122049.
Srinagar reported 23 cases, Baramulla 2, Budgam 3, Kupwara 3, Pulwama 4, Anantnag 0, Bandipora 3, Ganderbal 13 and Shopian 2.
Moreover, 264 more COVID-19 patients recovered and were discharged from various hospitalstoday including from Kashmir Division.
Meanwhile, 12 fresh Corona positive cases were reported today in Ladakh, all in Leh district. The new cases have taken the UT’s Corona count to 9589 including 219 active and 9243 recoveries.
There have been 127 Corona deaths in Ladakh – 84 in leh and 43 in Kargil.
