3-day State mourning on demise of CEC

JAMMU, Jan 30: Government today announced three day State mourning on the demise of Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo.
“As a mark of respect to Dr Sonam Dawa, who passed away on January 29, the Government has decided to observe three days State mourning from January 30 to February 1”, the General Administration Department Secretary said in a notification.
The National and State Flags will fly at half-mast during the State mourning on all buildings and places where these are flown regularly. There will be no official entertainment or function during the State mourning. State holiday in the memory of departed soul will be for January 31, 2018.
Meanwhile, Governor N N Vohra has expressed grief over the sudden passing away of Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo. In a message, the Governor has prayed to the Almighty for granting peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear this loss.
The demise of CEC was also mourned by the Legislative Assembly by observing two minutes silence. The reference in this regard was made by BJP MLA Sat Sharma and Congress MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also paid floral tributes to the CEC by organizing a function at party headquarters.
To mourn the sudden demise of the Chief Executive Councilor, Leh observed complete shutdown. The shutdown call was given by Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) and supported by Merchants Association, Restaurant Assoc-iation and all other trade organisations. National flag remained half flown at LAHDC Secretariat and Deputy Commissioner’s office to mourn the death.
Later in the evening, thousands of people including LBA executive members, Executive Councilors, district officers, Councillors, political heads, religious heads participated in a candle light march which started from Leh Gate and culminated at Chowkhang Vihara Leh.
