JAMMU, Mar 4: Several students and three cops were injured in the clash and subsequent use of force when the former turned violent while protesting here today against State Board of School Education for alleged irrational distribution of marks in Class 12th paper of Physics, which was held on March 1.
The huge number of protesting students blocked ever busy road at Rehari Chungi crossing and resorted to stone pelting as Police tried to disperse them by using force and subsequent lathicharge as well as teargas shelling.
Several students and   three cops, including SDPO North (City) Vivek Shekhar and    SHO Pacca Danga, Ajay Bhat sustained minor injuries in the clash between Police and agitators. Even as Police also detained a few agitators during the clash, they were unconditionally released later on.
The trouble erupted this morning around 10.30 am when hundreds of students assembled near the Rehari Chungi Chowk and blocked the ever busy road by holding a strong protest demonstration there. Amidst raising of slogans against JK BOSE and MoS Education, they were demanding grace marks for the wrong done in distribution of marks in the Class 12th question paper of Physics, which was held on March 1.
Even as a few among the protesting students marched towards BOSE office, majority of them remained at Rehari Chungi and insisted that the Board Chairman should personally visit them for redressal of the grievance.
After the intervention of SSP Jammu Sunil Gupta and ADC Jammu Arun Manhas, who personally reached the spot for pacifying situation, Secretary JKBOSE Veena Pandita and other officers of the Board visited the agitating students at Rehari Chungi. Even as the BOSE Secretary announced constitution of an expert panel, which would look into the matter and take a decision by next Tuesday, the agitating students insisted for on the spot decision in favour of them.
As the students refused to accept the announcement and they kept on insisting for on the spot decision on either grace marks or re-conduct of the said exam, the BOSE team left the spot. Soon some of the agitating students turned violent and started pelting stones on the nearby vehicles while Police resorted to lathicharge and teargas shelling for dispersing the mob.
In the clash, several agitating students and cops sustained minor injuries. Four students were taken into custody but released later on.
