2865 cases disposed of in Special Lok Adalats held across J&K

JAMMU, Mar 20: In order to build up a symphonious connection between the disputing parties, J&K Legal Services Authority under the stewardship of Justice Pankaj Mithal, Patron-in-Chief, J&K Legal Services Authority and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority, organized 2nd Special Lok Adalat throughout the UT of J&K.
This Special Lok Adalat was organized in all the Districts of UT of J&K to achieve the goal of Access to Justice for all and to help the poor litigants tide over their financial problems and untold mental stress. This is the 2nd Special Lok Adalat after the courts resumed partial physical hearing in view of COVID-19 pandemic.
As per the information received from the districts, out of a total number of 4210 cases taken up by 99 benches in the day long Special Lok Adalat at various courts across the UTof J&K. 2865 cases were disposed of and an amount of Rs 9,77,83,659 was awarded as compensation/settlement amount in civil, criminal, labour disputes, Electricity and Water Bills cases, Land Acquisition, Family matters, cheque dishonor and Bank Recovery cases.
MK Sharma, Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority thanked all the participants including the Judicial Officers, Secretaries DLSAs, Advocates, representatives of insurance companies and banks, staff of the courts and Legal Services Institutions and litigants for their pragmatic approach in settlement of cases in such a large number.
UDHAMPUR: A Special Lok Adalat was held here under the chairmanship of Mohan Lal Manhas Principal District and Sessions Judge Udhampur. A total of six benches were constituted which took up 257 cases of different nature out of which 186 cases were settled with a settlement amount of Rs 40,34,508.
The first bench  comprised of Shoba Ram Gandhi Additional District and Sessions Judge, Udhampur  and JD Slathia President Bar Association, Udhampur, second bench consists of BA Munshi CJM Udhampur and  Girja Shavan Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Udhampur, the third bench comprised of Preet Simran Kour Sub Judge Special Mobile Magistrate, Udhampur and Kamiya Singh Andotra Munsiff JMIC,  fourth bench consisted of Archana Charak Sub Judge (Chairman TLSC Ramnagar) and KD Sharma Panel Lawyer TLSC Ramnagar, fifth bench comprised of Amandeep Kour Munsiff Chenani, Advocate  Balwan Singh Panel Lawyer and Advocate AS Katoch Panel Lawyer TLSC Chenani and sixth bench comprised of  Priyanka Mahajan Munsiff Majalta and Saqib  Salim Tehsildar Majalta.
POONCH: A Special Lok Adalat was organized here in District Court complex. Four benches were constituted to take up the cases. The first bench was presided over by Madan Lal Chairman DLSA (Principal District and Sessions Judge Poonch) and assisted by Advocate Mohammad Aslam Chouhan, second Bench was presided over by Som Lal CJM (Chairman TLSC Poonch) and assisted by Advocate Mohammad Ishaq Khan, third bench was presided over by Sarfraz Nawaz, Special Mobile Magistrate Poonch and assisted by Advocate Abdul Majid and fourth bench was presided over by  Bhanu Basin District Mobile Magistrate (T) and assisted by Advocate  Hanwant Kour.
At Surankote, the only bench was presided over by Ashen-Ul-Haq Malik (Chairman TLSC Surankote) and assisted by Shafiq Ahmed, Additional Mobile Magistrate. At Mendhar, the bench was presided over by Shazia Choudhary, Chairman TLSC (JMIC) and assisted by Advocate Ghulam Rasool.
A total of 155 cases were taken up out of which 147 were settled by way of mediation, conciliation and compromise with a settlement amount of Rs 78,96,540.
KATHUA: A Special Lok Adalat was held in the premises of District Court Complex here under the supervision of Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Kathua Pawan Dev Kotwal.
To settle the cases, two benches were constituted. First bench comprised of Principal District and Sessions Judge Kathua Pawan Dev Kotwal, and Additional District and Sessions Judge Kathua Jatinder Singh Jamwal, whereas second bench comprised of Chief Judicial Magistrate Kathua Yashpal Sharma and Special Mobile Magistrate Kathua Anjana Rajput.
Besides, the Lok Adalats were also organized by Tehsil Legal Services Committees Hiranagar, Basohli, Bani, Billawar and Mahanpur.
A total of 133 cases were taken up out of which 94 cases were disposed of/settled. Compensation worth Rs 28,05,000 was awarded in the MACT cases and a recovery of Rs 27,88,598 was also made in favour of the Banks. One case which was more than 5 years old was also settled in the aforesaid Lok Adalat.
