KARGIL, Sept 9: National Conference and Congress leaders have now raised concerns over use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) without VVPATs in the elections for Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil.
The leaders of two parties met the Deputy Commissioner Kargil, who happens to be the District Election Officer (DEO) for LAHDC Kargil elections and apprised him of their concerns over use of EVMs without VVPATs.
They demanded that VVPATs should be used so that electorates are able to see that their vote has been cast appropriately.
Meanwhile, a total 278 polling stations will be set up for the upcoming Ladakh Hill Council elections, the majority of which are either sensitive or hypersensitive, a senior Government official said here today.
The election to the fifth Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC)-Kargil will be held on October 4. The votes will be counted on October 8, according to a fresh notification issued by the Election Department.
“A total 278 polling stations will be set up across all 26 constituencies for the October 4 election. Of these, 114 are hypersensitive, 99 sensitive and 65 normal,” sources said.
The polling stations were categorised jointly by the civil and the police authorities and security and polling personnel will be deployed accordingly.
Meanwhile, the Leh Apex Body held a meeting regarding the ongoing movement and decided to resume the tour schedule to different regions of Ladakh to sensitise people at grassroots level and to intensify the movement in coming days.
Meeting was attended by the leaders/representatives of different religious organisation, Nambardar Association, student bodies, Panchayat Coordination Committee and different political parties and Apex Body’s youth members.
