27 quintals polythene seized at Leh

LEH, July 18: A joint team comprising District Magistrate, Leh, Simrandeep Singh and Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Tashi Dolma today seized about 27 quintals of polythene bags.
Such a large quantity of polythene was bound for Kashmir valley via Manali-Leh Highway. The truck operators had hidden the polythene bags in the consignment of Indian Army, which was bound for Leh. The trucks were seized at the Commercial Taxes Office at Upshi.
“Till now, it has not been clarified as to who was the beneficiary of this banned product in Kashmir”, official spokesman said, adding “the authorities have started action in terms of the Jammu and Kashmir Non Bio-Degradable Material (Management, Handling and Disposal) Act, 2007.
It is pertinent to mention here that polythene is banned in J&K vide SRO 182 of the Forest Department.
