25 bikers reach Padum via newly constructed Manali-Zanskar Road

LEH, Sept 10: For the first time in the history of Zanskar as many as 20 light motor vehicles and 25 bikers under the banner of Rohtang Riders reached Padum the capital of Zanskar on 9th September after crossing Singkhula pass 16580 ft.
After reaching Zanskar via new road that connect Zanskar with Darcha in Himachal Pradesh, the people of Zanskar led by Incharge SDM Tundup Namgyal and SHO Inspector Rigzin gave a rousing reception to the Rohtang Riders on their arrival in Padum.
“People of Zanskar are thrilled to see this day for which they were waiting to see since decades. The alternative road connectivity from Himachal Pradesh was a demand of the people for decades and it is expected to benefit the people of the region as it will boost the economy of Zanskar and Kargil in different ways,” they said while expressing joy.
Kargil Executive Councillor for Tourism Punchok Tashi was also present. To celebrate the occasion, the Tourism Department Zanskar has organized a Marathon “Run for communal Harmony’ in which 125 boys and girls participated and position holders were given prize and certificates.
Pertinent to mention here that local contractor May May Chonjor voluntarily worked on the road at Singkhula pass 16580 ft to support the BRO.
