24 killed, 300 injured by wild animals

Srinagar, June 21: Government today said man-animal conflict has claimed lives of 24 people and left 300 others injured during year 2015-16 in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Vikar Rasool in Lower House, Minister incharge Forests stated that wild animals have killed 24 people and injured 300 during 2015-16 and the Department paid a compensation of Rs. 79.7 lakhs to the family members of those who died and Rs. 98.95 lakhs to those who suffered injuries.
“There have been sixteen cases of wild animal attacks in the Banihal constituency and an amount of Rs. 4.40500 lakhs has been paid as compensation,” the Minister said. In a written reply to another question of MLA Shah Mohammad Tantray in Lower House, the Minister stated that one person has died and 48 injured during last five years in Haveli constituency and an amount of Rs. 5.58 lakhs has been paid as compensation.
