JAMMU, Oct 27: A jawan of 42 Battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) today allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at Income Tax Office near Panama Chowk.
According to a police spokesperson, the constable identified as B Venkatesh, resident of Andhra Pradesh, allegedly shot himself in his head with his service rifle ‘Insas” while being on night duty at Income Tax Office near Panama Chowk.
The profusely bleeding Venkatesh was found lying on the ground at about 4 am by Guard Commander, ASI Raghubir Singh, who along with others immediately shifted Venkatesh to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu where doctors declared him as brought dead. The body of the deceased was handed over to SSB after conducting post mortem.
On getting information, a team from police station Trikuta Nagar led by SHO Inspector, Naveen Angral, reached the spot and started investigations.
A case under Section 174 Cr PC has been registered at police station Trikuta Nagar.
