2 working stills smashed, 700 ltr lahaan destroyed

RAJOURI, May 5: In a major action against illegal manufacturing and sale of liquor, the police destroyed around 700 litres of lahaan (raw material for liquor) and unearthed two working stills in Nowshera area.
A senior police officer said that a team headed by Station House Officer, Nowshera Fareed Ahmed under the supervision of Sub Divisional Police Officer, Nowshera Zakir Shaheen Mirza and Additional SP Nowshera, Girdhari Lal Sharma during routine patrolling in Dandesar Bala area of Nowshera noticed suspicious movement of some persons near a house.
Team of police zeroed in on the house owned by Mulkh Raj, son of Lal Chand and found a working still being used for manufacturing of `Desi’ liquor. Taking note of it, police unearthed the still and smashed it. Eight litres of manufactured liquor was seized from the spot while around 500 liters of lahaan was destroyed.
Accused Mulkh Raj was arrested while his son is absconding. Both have been booked in a case under relevant sections of law at Nowshera Police Station.
Similarly, a team of police headed by Station House Officer Nowshera Fareed Ahmed during routine patrolling in Bhajnowa village of Nowshera noticed two persons sitting near a water channel under suspicious circumstances.
During search in the area, a working still was unearthed which was being used by the duo for manufacturing of Desi liquor. Both the accused namely- Joginder Lal and Deputy Lal, sons of Nand Lal, residents of Bhajnowa in Nowshera were arrested from the spot whereas around 200 litres of Lahaan was destroyed on the spot and a case under relevant sections of law have been registered against them.
Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri, Chandan Kohli said that police is making best possible efforts to tighten noose on the people involved in illegal manufacturing and sale of liquor.
