2 smugglers held, illicit timber seized

Srinagar, June 13: Police in Ganderbal today said to have arrested 2 timber smugglers and seized illicit timber.
Acting on specific information about timber smuggling, a police party from Police Station Lar led by SHO PS Lar under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal at a checkpoint established at Benhama Crossing intercepted a vehicle (Tata Mobile) bearing registration number JK01T-4087 with two persons on board.
“They have been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan son of Mohammad Sulaiman Khan resident of Nunnar and Mushtaq Ahmad Wani son of Abdul Rahim Wani resident of Badergund Ganderbal. During a search of the vehicle illicit timber logs have been seized,” police said.
Both persons, the police said, have been arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody.
“The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. A case vide FIR No. 22/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Lar and investigation has been initiated.
“The drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure the protection of Green Gold,” police said.
